We understand that sometimes life gets tough and we experience mental pain (unpleasant feeling or suffering). We seek ways to reduce it. You might have painful thoughts or memories, painful feelings or habits, a painful relationship, painful way of making decisions, painful way of looking at yourself or a painful way of life. Some of those have names: depression, anxiety, phobia, panic, ADHD, stress, PTSD, eating disorder.
Others are less easily labeled, but are as painful. Such are relationship issues, conflict, anger, emptiness, low self-esteem, loss of a person, and loss of direction. In order to reduce such pain, we first need to understand it, then to challenge it, then finding ways to replace it with something less painful and more fulfilling and pleasant. In a nutshell, that’s what therapy is about.
